New Year Intentions

As we round the final stretch of this year (how did that happen already?!), I think it’s a great time to reflect on this year, as well as set intentions for the new year ahead. This year was such a strange combination of life somewhat getting back to whatever “normal” is for us, as well as the threat of the pandemic still not quite in the past. I think we all had high hopes that 2021 would be this incredible time of emerging from last year with newfound hope and plans to do it all after a year of isolation. I don’t know about you, but that did not happen for me. This was partially on purpose, as I wanted to ease my way back into the world at a pace that felt aligned for me, but there is still an undercurrent of uncertainty that kept me from going overboard with trips, activities and planning. I’ve been trying to find a balance that feels good for me, which has taken some trial and error.

Moving into a new year, I always set aside some time to think about what I really want for the coming year. What I want to achieve, the things I want to focus on, and most importantly, how I want to feel. I pick a word for the year that encapsulates how I want to move through the year and my overall theme and focus. My words for past years have been things like expansion, play, intuition, etc. It is helpful for me to have a focal point to return to over and over again throughout the year, to set an intention for myself so I have a reference for the things I choose to do and how I spend my time and energy. I keep this word on my vision board over my desk, along with other things that I want to manifest for the year. This way, I look at it consistently throughout my day to remind myself of where and who I want to be on this journey. For me, this way of approaching the year is so much more fulfilling and intentional than the traditional resolutions for a new year.

I encourage you to think about what you want for yourself in this coming year. How do you want to feel? What are the things you want to see come to fruition in your life? Who do you want to be? What are the things, people, experiences that you hope flow into your life?
